2010 Tax Brackets for Single Individuals
(Schedule X)

If you are a single taxpayer, your tax brackets for 2010 have changed. These tax tables are designed for single individuals filing their 2010 income tax return, and represent significant changes from Tax Year 2009.

These tables are effective as of January 1, 2010, and do not take into account any types of tax credits or deducations, such as the standard deduction, mortgage deductions, etc.

Ramona Johnson's Estimated Taxes

  = Base Tax + (Rate x Amount Over)
  = $4,681.25 + [.25 x ($63,000 - $34,000)]
  = $4,681.25 + (.25 x $29,000)
  = $4,681.25 + $7,250.00
  = $11,931.25

Assuming she made the same amount last year, Ramona's 2010 total tax dropped $162.50 from last year, using the 2009 income tax brackets for single taxpayers.

Myron Major, a single taxpayer, has 2010 TAXABLE INCOME of $92,000. Mr. Major's income falls between:

Myron Major's Estimated Taxes

  = Base Tax + (Rate x Amount Over)
  = $16,781.25 + [.28 x ($92,000 - $82,400)]
  = $16,781.25 + (.28 x $9,600)
  = $16,781.25 + $2,688.00
  = $19,469.25

Myron also came out better in 2010 than the previous year, assuming that he earned the same income. His total tax dropped $269.00 from his 2009 tax return, using the 2009 income tax brackets for single taxpayers.
